Essay - A Journey by Boat

Introduction: Bangladesh is a land of rivers. Here a journey by a boat is very easy. One can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and nature by a boat journey. A large part of our country sink under rain water. At that time, different places can be visited by boat. Last autumn vacation, I got such an opportunity to make a journey by boat.

Preparation: Our college was closed on the Puja vacation last autumn. I along with some of my friends decided to go for a journey by boat. The date and time was fixed. We hired a big boat. We took our necessary luggage and food. Accordingly we reached the river ghat on the fixed date. Beginning of the journey: It was a bright sunny day. The atmosphere was calm and cool. There were few patches of clouds on the sky. We got on the boat. There were a helmsman and a two oarsmen. All of them were experienced and strong. The boat started at 8.30 p.m. with oars.

Description of the journey: The river was calm. We were in exciting mood. It seemed we were going to plunge ourselves into the ocean of enjoyment. The boatmen started singing palligeeti. The murmuring sound of the river along with the sound of the oar created a combination of excellent musical tone. The boat was moving speedily on favourable wave. The total atmosphere was bathed with excellent beauty. The open fields, green crops etc. created the eye dazzling sight. The cottages of the river side villages with clusters of trees beside them offered a very fantastic look. We saw the village women bathing in the river and carrying water. Fishermen were fishing. Birds of various species were hovering over our heads. The beautiful rural atmosphere cast a spell upon our minds and we were struck dumb. After four hours, our boat reached near a small bazar. We got down from the boat. We decided to cook food. Some of my friends went to the bazar and bought rice, vegetables and fish. There were cooking equipment's for the boatmen on their boat. One of the oarsmen was an excellent cook. He cooked deliciously and after eating, we resumed our journey. The boatmen again started singing. We felt sleepy with gentle breeze. The songs of the boatmen also lulled us to sleepy mood. However, we resisted our sleep and engaged ourselves in sucking the beauties all around.

Sun set on the river: The time advanced. The boat was moving. The sun was about to set. Setting sun leans on the western sky. Gradually day vanishes on the western horizon. All of us were enjoying the rare beauty sitting on the boat. We visualized the setting sun. The darkness appeared. We enjoyed both the twilight and the transition of day and night. 

The river at night: The river at night was really fantastic. This was the first time on my life to enjoy the moon blanched river. Our boat was moving with the dancing of waves. We visualized the trees and bushes on both sides of the bank. The light from the fishing boats was coming on river. We heard the murmuring sounds of the river along with the sounds of fishing boats. We also heard the cry of stray jackal every now and then.

Destination: We were immersed into enjoyment. With this happy mood, we failed to understand when the boat reached our destination. The boatmen announced our departure. It was about 8p.m. We halted there for sometimes. It was a happy journey. Conclusion: That river journey left an indelible impression on my mind. Its memory will linger in my mind as long as I live. This journey also helped me to be close with nature and natural atmosphere.

বঙ্গানুবাদ: ভূমিকা: বাংলাদেশ নদীমাতৃক দেশ। এখানে নৌকা ভ্রমণ খুব সহজ। যে কেউ নৌকা ভ্রমণে সুন্দর প্রতিবেশ ও প্রকৃতি উপভোগ করতে পারে। আমাদের দেশের বিশাল অংশ বৃষ্টির পানিতে ডুবে যায়। সে সময় বিভিন্ন অংশ নৌকায় ভ্রমণ করা যেতে পারে। গত শরৎকালীন ছুটিতে আমি এমন একটি নৌকা ভ্রমণের সুযোগ পেলাম।

প্রস্তুতি: গত শরতে আমাদের কলেজ পূজার ছুটিতে বন্ধ ছিল। আমি সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম আমার কয়েকজন বন্ধুর সাথে নৌকা ভ্রমণে যাব। তারিখ ও সময় নির্ধারণ করা হলো। আমরা একটা বড় নৌকা ভাড়া করলাম। আমরা আমাদের প্রয়োজনীয় গাঁটরি প্যাটরা ও খাবার নিলাম। তদনুসারে নির্ধারিত তারিখে আমরা নদীর ঘাটে পৌঁছলাম ।

ভ্রমণ শুরু: এটি ছিল উজ্জ্বল রৌদ্রময় দিন। প্রতিবেশ ছিল শান্ত ও ঠাণ্ডা। আকাশে ছিল কয়েক খণ্ড মেঘ। আমরা নৌকায় উঠলাম। একজন মাঝি ও দুইজন দাঁড়ি ছিল। তাদের সবাই ছিল অভিজ্ঞ ও বলবান। দাঁড়ের সাহায্যে নৌকা সকাল সাড়ে আটটায় যাত্রা শুরু করলো।

ভ্রমণের বর্ণনা: নদী ছিল শান্ত। আমরা ছিলাম উত্তেজনাকর মেজাজে। মনে হচ্ছিল আমরা নিজেরা সুখ সাগরে অবগাহনে যাচ্ছি। মাঝিরা পল্লিগীতি গাইতে শুরু করলো। নদী কলকল ধ্বনির সাথে দাঁড়ের শব্দের সমন্বয়ে একটি চমৎকার মধুর সুর সৃষ্টি হলো। অনুকূল স্রোতে নৌকা ক্ষিপ্র গতিতে চলছিল। সমগ্র প্রতিবেশ চমৎকার সৌন্দর্যের বিধৌত করেছিল। উন্মুক্ত মাঠ, সবুজ শস্য ইত্যাদি চোখ ধাধানো দৃশ্যের অবতারণা করেছিল। নদী তীরের পল্লিভবন, তার পেছনের গাছপালার সারি ভীষণ একটা অদ্ভুত দৃশ্যের অবতারণা করেছিল। আমরা পরি বধূদের নদীতে স্নান করা ও পানি নিয়ে যাওয়ার দৃশ্য দেখলাম। মৎস্যজীবীরা মৎস্য শিকার করছিল। বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির পাখি আমাদের মাথার উপর দিয়ে ঘোরাফেরা করছিল। পল্লির সুন্দর প্রতিবেশ আমাদের মোহিত করলো এবং আমরা নির্বাক হয়ে গেলাম। চার ঘণ্টার পর, আমাদের নৌকা একটা ছোট বাজারে এসে পৌঁছল। আমরা নৌকা থেকে নামলাম। আমরা খাবার রান্নার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম। আমার কয়েকজন বন্ধু বাজারে গিয়ে চাল, সব্জি, মাছ কিনলো। নৌকায় মাঝিদের রান্নার সরঞ্জাম ছিল। মাঝিদের একজন ছিল চমৎকার পাচক। সে সুস্বাদুভাবে রান্না করলো এবং খাবার পর আমরা পুনরায় যাত্রা শুরু করলাম। মাঝিরা আবার গান শুরু করলো। মৃদু বাতাসে আমরা নিদ্রালু অনুভব করলাম। মাঝিদের গান আমাদের নিদ্রালু মেজাজে আবিষ্ট করে ফেললো। যাহোক, আমরা আমাদের ঘুমকে প্রতিরোধ করলাম এবং চারদিকের সৌন্দর্য অবলোকন করার জন্য নিজেদের নিয়োজিত করলাম।

নদীতে সূর্যাস্ত: সময় এগিয়ে গেল। নৌকা চলছিল। সূর্য প্রায় অস্ত যাচ্ছিল। অস্তগামী সূর্য পশ্চিম দিগন্তে হেলানো। পশ্চিম দিগন্তে ধীরে ধীরে দিনের অবসান ঘটছে। নৌকায় বসে আমরা সকলে বিরল সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করছিলাম। আমারা সূর্যাস্ত অবলোকন করেছিলাম। অন্ধকার ঘনিয়ে এসেছিল। আমরা গোধূলী ও দিবা-রাত্রির পরিবর্তন উভয়ই উপভোগ করলাম।

রাতের নদী: রাতে নদী ছিল সত্যিই অদ্ভুত। চাঁদের আবছা আলোতে নদী উপভোগ করা ছিল আমার জীবনের প্রথম। ঢেউয়ের তালে নেচে নেচে আমাদের নৌকা চলছিল। আমরা নদীর উভয় তীরে গাছপালা ও ঝোঁপ জঙ্গল প্রত্যক্ষ করলাম। মাছ ধরা নৌকা থেকে আলো নদীর উপর আসছিল। চাঁদের আলো ও এই আলোর সম্মিলিতভাবে বিরল সৌন্দর্যের আবির্ভাব ঘটিয়েছিল। মাছ ধরা নৌকার শব্দের সাথে আমরা নদীর কলকল ধ্বনি শুনলাম। আমরা মাঝে মাঝে ইতস্তত ঘুরে বেড়ানো শৃগালের ডাকও শুনতে পেলাম ৷ গন্তব্য: আমরা আনন্দে নিমজ্জিত ছিলাম। কখন যে নৌকা আমাদের গন্তব্যে এসে পৌঁছেছিল, সুখী মেজাজে আমরা তা বুঝতে ব্যর্থ হয়েছিলাম। মাঝিরা আমাদের পৌঁছানোর কথা ঘোষণা দিল। তখন ছিল রাত্রি প্রায় ৮টা। আমরা কিছু সময় সেখানে অবস্থান করলাম । এটি ছিল একটি সুখী ভ্রমণ ।

উপসংহারঃ ঐ নৌকা ভ্রমণটি আমার মনের উপর একটি অমোচনীয় ধারণা সৃষ্টি করেছিল। আমি যতদিন বেঁচে থাকবো, এর স্মৃতি ততদিন আমার মনে স্থায়ী হয়ে থাকবে। এই ভ্রমণ আমাকে প্রকৃতি ও প্রাকৃতিক প্রতিবেশের নিবিড় সান্নিধ্যে যেতেও সাহায্য করবে।
