Essay - Importance of Learning English

Introduction: English is an international language. It is very rich. It is important in every step of our livelihood. It is highly related to us in the globalized world. To adjust with the advancement in world, we must learn English. Without this language, we will go backward.  

Position of English in the world: English is the mother langue of the English. It is also the mother tongue of U.S.A. Canada, New Zealand, Australia etc. Now-a-days English has crossed the national borders to reach people who speak other languages. It is not confined only to its native speakers. It has now become the language of the world. people. Now about 350 million people use English as a first language. Another 300 million use it as a second language. English is now the official or semi-official language of more than 60 countries. English also has attracted the demand of different international organizations and committees. For this widespread use of English, it has got bewildering variety. The pronunciation, grammar, idioms of English has been influenced by multifarious use of it. English has now become a language of the world people. 

Importance of English: The importance of English is immense. World people are depending on English more and more. With the advancement of globalization, its importance has been realized to everyone. So the governments of the world countries put emphasis on learning English. Its importance can be referred as-  

i. To get good jobs: To get good jobs, the learning of English is highly essential. Today job advertisements demand candidates having a standard knowledge of English. Both written and spoken English is given priority. Different multi national organizations and companies employ English knowing people. They provide English language training to their staffs. Thus both national and international levels, English helps the people to get good jobs. Again some jobs need English knowing officers. The army officers, diplomats, doctors, telephone operator or foreign offices require the standard form of English. Good jobs and salaries mean the knowledge of English.  

ii. For higher education: In the field of higher education,  the necessity of English knows no bounds. Most of the books on higher education are written in English. If any student wants to go abroad for higher education, he must learn English. To run research, Ph. d on other professional learning, English is widely used. As English is the widely used and developed language, famous journals, periodicals, scientific fictions etc. are published in English. Thus English plays an importance role in the field of higher education.  

iii. For business work: In the field of trade and commerce, English occupies the top most position. To run business among foreign buyers, customers and producers, English is vitally used. Now-a-days, business is not confined within the country itself. It goes from country to country. For this, English is highly essential.

iv. To communicate across the national borders: English now has reached every country. To communicate with other people of the world, we need English. English helps to understand other people. English has acquired the prestige of global language. It helps to create universal brotherhood, fellow feelings and sympathy. In this globalized world, people have come closer to each other. English has helped the world people to come closer to each other. Thus to communicate with people in other countries, English is highly essential.  

To run computer: To run computer, English plays a great role. The language of the computer is English. All the programmes need English. Thus English is needed in learning computer.  

Conclusion: Thus the importance of English is immense. Everyone must need it. Without this, we will not be able to keep pace with the modern progressive world. Thus there is no alternative of learning this language.

ভূমিকা: ইংরেজি একটি আন্তর্জার্জিক ভাষা। এটি খুব সমৃদ্ধ। এটি আমাদের জীবনযাত্রার প্রতিটি পদক্ষেপে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। বিশ্বায়নের পৃথিবীতে এটি আমাদের সাথে উচ্চ মাত্রায় সম্পর্কিত। অগ্রগামী বিশ্বে খাপখাইয়ে চলতে, আমাদের অবশ্যই ইংরেজি শিখতে হবে। এই ভাষা ছাড়া পেছনের দিকে চলে যাশে। 

বিশ্বে ইংরেজির অবস্থান: ইংরেজি ইংরেজ জাতির মাতৃভাষা। এটি আমেরিকা, কানাডা, নিউজিল্যান্ড ও অস্ট্রেলিয়া ইত্যাদিরও মাতৃভাষা। আজকাল ইংরেজি আন্তর্জাতিক সীমানা অতিক্রম করেছে যারা অন্যান্য ভাষায় কথা বলে সে লোকদের কাছেও পৌঁছেছে। এর স্বদেশীয় কথকের কাছে শুধু আবদ্ধ নয়। এটি এখন বিশ্বের মানুষের ভাষা হয়েছে। এখন ৩৫ কোটি মানুষ প্রথম ভাষা হিসেবে ইংরেজি ব্যবহার করে। অপর ৩০ কোটি মানুষ দ্বিতীয় ভাষা হিসেবে এটি ব্যবহার করে। ইংরেজি এখন ৬০টিরও অধিক দেশে অফিসিয়াল ও আধা অফিসিয়াল ভাষা। ইংরেজি বিভিন্ন আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থা ও কমিটির চাহিদাকেও আকর্ষণ করেছে। ইংরেজির এই বিস্তৃত ব্যবহারের জন্য, এটি হতবুদ্ধিকর বৈচিত্র্য লাভ করেছে। ইংরেজি উচ্চারণ, ব্যাকরণ, বাকধারা এর বহুবিধ ব্যবহরের দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয়েছে। ইংরেজি এখন বিশ্ব জনগণের ভাষা হয়েছে। 

ইংরেজির গুরুত্ব: ইংরেজির গুরুত্ব বিশাল। বিশ্বের জনগণ অধিক থেকে অধিকতর ইংরেজির উপর নির্ভরশীল হচ্ছে। বিশ্বায়নের অগ্রগতির দ্বারা, এর গুরুত্ব প্রত্যেকের কাছে উপলব্ধি হয়েছে। তাই বিশ্বের দেশগুলোর সরকার ইংরেজি শিক্ষার উপর জোর দিয়েছেন। এর গুরুত্ব উল্লেখ করা যেতে পারে। যেমন- 

i. ভালো চাকরি পেতে: ভালো চাকরি পেতে, ইংরেজি শেখা অত্যন্ত আবশ্যক। আজকাল চাকরির বিজ্ঞাপনে চাওয়া হয় প্রার্থীদের ইংরেজির মান সম্পন্ন জ্ঞান থাকতে হবে। লিখিত ও কথোপকথন উভয় ক্ষেত্রে প্রাধান্য দেয়া হবে। বিভিন্ন বহুজাতিক সংস্থা ও কোম্পানির কর্মচারীরা ইংরেজি জানা লোক। তারা তাদের কর্মচারীদের ইংরেজি ভাষার প্রশিক্ষণের ব্যবস্থা করে থাকে। এভাবে জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজি জনগণকে ভালো চাকরি পেতে সাহায্য করে। আবার কোন কোন চাকরিতে ইংরেজি জানা অফিসার আবশ্যক। সেনা কর্মকর্তা, কূটনীতিক, চিকিৎসক, টেলিফোন অপারেটর অথবা বৈদেশিক কার্যালয়ে মান সম্পন্ন আকারের ইংরেজি আবশ্যক। ভালো চাকরি ও বেতন বলতে বুঝায় ইংরেজির জ্ঞান।

ii. উচ্চ শিক্ষার জন্য: উচ্চ শিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজির প্রয়োজনীতা অসীম। উচ্চ শিক্ষার অধিকাংশ বই ইংরেজিতে লেখা। যদি কোন ছাত্র উচ্চ শিক্ষার জন্য বিদেশ যেতে চায়, তাহলে তাকে অবশ্যই ইংরেজি শিখতে হবে। পি.এইচ.ডিতে গবেষণা চালাতে অথবা অন্য পেশাগত শিক্ষণের জন্য ইংরেজি ব্যাপকভাবে প্রয়োজনীয়। যেহেতু ইংরেজি ব্যাপভাবে ব্যবহৃত ও উন্নত ভাষা, বিখ্যাত সংবাদপত্র, সাময়িকী, বিজ্ঞান কল্পকাহিনী ইত্যাদি ইংরেজিতে প্রকাশিত হয়। এভাবে ইংরেজি উচ্চ শিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

iii. ব্যবসায়িক কাজের জন্য: ব্যবসার বাণিজ্যের ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজি সর্বো অবস্থান অধিকার করে আছে। বিদেশি ক্রেতা, পরিন্দার ও উৎপাদকদের সাথে ব্যবসার চালাতে ইংরেজি অত্যাবশ্যকরূপে ব্যবহৃত আজকাল, ব্যবসায় নিজের দেশের মধ্যে আবদ্ধ নয়। এটি দেশ দেশান্ত রে যায়। এজন্য ইংরেজি অত্যধিকভাবে আবশ্যক।  

iv. জাতীয় সীমান্ত অতিক্রম করে যোগাযোগ: এখন ইংরেজি প্রতিটি দেশে পৌঁছেছে। বিশ্বের অন্যান্য লোকের সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে আমাদের ইংরেজি প্রয়োজন। অন্য লোকদের বুঝতে ইংরেজি সাহায্য করে। ইংরেজি বিশ্বভাষার মর্যাদা অর্জন করেছে। এটি সর্বজনীন ভ্রাতৃত্ব, সহানুভূতি সমবেদনা সৃষ্টি করতে সাহায্য করে। এই সামগ্রিক পৃথিবীতে, মানুষ একে অপরের সান্নিধ্যে এসেছে। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতায় সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারীবৃন্দ অপরের সাথে যোগযোগ করতে ইংরেজি ব্যবহার করে। ইংরেজি বিশ্বের জনগণকে একে অপরের সান্নিধ্যে আসতে সাহায্য করেছে। এভাবে অন্যান্য দেশের সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে ইংরেজি অত্যধিক পরিমাণে আবশ্যক।  

V.  কম্পিউটার চালাতে: কম্পিউটার চালাতে, ইংরেজি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। কম্পিউটারের ভাষা ইংরেজি। সকল প্রোগামের জন ইংরেজি আবশ্যক। এভাবে কম্পিউটার শিখতে ইংরেজি আবশ্যক। 

উপসংহার: এভাবে ইংরেজির গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম। প্রত্যেকেরই এটি প্রয়োজন। এটি ছাড়া আমরা আধুনিক প্রগতিশীল বিশ্বের সাথে তালমিলিয়ে চলতে সমর্থ হবো না। এভাবে এ ভাষা শিক্ষার বিকল্প নেই।
