A Street Beggar 

A street beggar is a poor person who begs on the streets or in a market place. There are many kinds of beggars in our country; street beggar is a type of them. The street beggar is found in both villages and cities. But their number is more in the cities than in the villages. A street beggar creates a lot of problems for the citizens. Some gentlemen or ladies become embarrassed when any beggar stretches his hands before him/her. Someone says, "Excuse me." Many beggars are very cunning. They persuade a passer-by till he gives alms. Sometimes a beggar steals valuable things from a shop or a hhouse Many female beggars take part in unsocial activities. A street beggar wears shabby cloth. She/He is very unclean. A rough stench comes out of the clothes of a beggar. In some places a street beggar begs with wounds. The government of Bangladesh has taken various steps to rehabilitate the beggars. It is high time to turn the hands of a beggar into the hands of a worker.

রাস্তার ভিক্ষুক একজন দরিদ্র ব্যক্তি যে রাস্তায় ও বাজারের মধ্যে ভিক্ষা করে। আমাদের দেশে অনেক ধরনের ভিখারি (ভিক্ষুক) আছে; রাস্তার ভিক্ষুক তাদের মধ্যে একটি। রাস্তার ভিক্ষুককে গ্রাম ও শহর উভয় স্থানেই দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। কিন্তু তাদের সংখ্যা গ্রামের চেয়ে শহরেই বেশি। একজন রাস্তার ভিক্ষুক নাগরিকদের অনেক সমস্যার সৃষ্টি করে। অনেক ভদ্রলোক বা মহিলা হতবুদ্ধি হয়ে যায়, যখন কোন ভিক্ষুক তার সামনে হাত বাড়ায়। অনেকে বলে, “আমাকে ক্ষমা করুন।” অনেক ভিক্ষুক খুব চতুর। তারা ভিক্ষা না দেয়া পর্যন্ত পথচারীকে প্ররোচিত করে। অনেক সময় ভিক্ষুক দোকান বা বাসা থেকে মূল্যবান জিনিস চুরি করে। অনেক ভিখারিণী অসামাজিক কার্যকলাপে অংশগ্রহণ করে। একজন ভিক্ষুক জীর্ণ পোশাক পরিধান করে। সে খুব নোংরা। একজন ভিক্ষুকের পোশাক থেকে বাজে দুর্গন্ধ বের হয়। অনেক স্থানে ভিক্ষুক ক্ষত নিয়ে ভিক্ষা করে। বাংলাদেশ সরকার ভিক্ষুকদের পুনর্বাসিত করতে বিভিন্ন পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেছে। ভিক্ষুকের হাতকে কর্মীর হাতে রূপান্তরিত করার এখনই উপযুক্ত সময়।
