Essay - Your First Day at College

Introduction: I am a second year college student now. My first appearance at the college was an exciting one. I came to this college at first with my cousin. That day is still fresh in my memory.  

A sense of joy and excitement: After passing the S. S. C.I took myself admitted into Kaligonj College. When the first day came, I took every preparation to go. Of course, I had been preparing for last few days. But on the fixed day, I was very excited. I was feeling extreme joy and emotion. In fact, joy and excitement hovered round me. I was tossed with these two phenomena.

Reaching the college: I along with my cousin started for the college at 8.30 am. We reached the college campus after half an hour at 9 p.m. The day was a sunny day and we rode the bicycle to reach the college. Throughout the whole road, my mind was waving between emotion, thrills, and excitements My cousin was telling about the college and its surroundings.

The college premises: When we reached the college main gate, I was greatly thrilled observing the splendid gate. 1 seemed I was entering into the vast horizon of learning. The total college fascinated me. I visualized the large building. its rooms, yard, orchard, flower garden and vast play field. The Shaheed Minar inside the campus thrilled me. I saw everything neat and clean. The full blooming flowers seemed to be ready to take me within their heart. In fact, the magnificent college infrastructure charmed me to the best. 

Attendance of the first class: The first class of that day started at 9. 30 am. Reaching the classroom, I felt very nervous. Innumerable unknown faces terrified me. I took my seat at the last bench in a wavering mind. After few minutes I was always awakened when I perceived the front students standing up. Instantly, I stood up unknowingly and felt the presence of a middle aged man. I shook off my shyness and understood this was our teacher. In a polite and gentle mood, he urged us to sit down. He was our English teacher. On the first day, two classes were held and I attended all these classes. 

Friendship with others: My first day at college was a day of making friendship. After our classes on that day, I conversed with some other students. As time passed, my shyness withered and I started making friendship with them. Others also advanced to converse with me. Within short time, I realized I had been tied with Rafiq, Suman Chumki and Razib. I suggested them to roam about other places to understand everything.  

Sense of shyness in front of the Principal: We were wandering round the large building. At a time, we reached in front of the Principal's chamber. At that time, my heart was throbbing. I could not bring myself to face him. But I felt an urge to see him. I became curious and looked through the window, I stole a glance at the Principal. He was a tall and handsome man. He wore spectacle on his nose. I felt an unimaginable sense of knowledge within him. 

The college library: On my first day, the college library was a great attraction to me. I was astonished to see the huge pile of books. The librarian welcomed me and my friends when he understood that we were new comers. I picked two or three books and read for a while.  

The common room: On the first day, I also visited our common room. It was a new experience to me. I saw a number of students there. It seemed to me as a meeting place. It was a well furnished room. Some of elder-students spoke with me in the room. I was highly pleased at their kind speech. I will never forget those amiable minds.  

Return at home: I can clearly visualized that I spent at least five hours at my college on the first day. As time passed, the total college area appeared to me newer and newer. It fascinated me like a small bird to a child. At 2. 30 p.m. I reached home with animated sensibility. 

Conclusion: My first day at college was very pleasant. I still cherish this day. I earnestly go back both consciously and sub-consciously to that day when the corner stone of C my life was laid.

রচনা - তোমার কলেজের প্রথম দিন

ভূমিকা: আমি এখন কলেজের দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের ছাত্র। কলেজে আমার প্রথম উপস্থিতি ছিল উত্তেজনাকর। এই কলেজে সর্বপ্রথমে আসি আমার e চাচাতো ভাইয়ের সাথে। ঐ দিনটি এখনো আমার স্মৃতিতে সতেজ।  

আনন্দ ও উত্তেজনা বোধ: মাধ্যমিক স্কুল সার্টিফিকেট পরীক্ষায় পাস করার পর আমি কালিগঞ্জ কলেজে ভর্তি হলাম। যখন প্রথম দিন এলো, আমি যাওয়ার জন্য সব প্রস্তুতি গ্রহণ করলাম। অবশ্য আমি গত কদিন যাবৎ প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছিলাম। কিন্তু নির্ধারিত দিনে, আমি খুব উত্তেজিত ছিলাম। আমি চরম আনন্দ ও আবেগ অনুভব করছিলাম। । বস্তুত, আনন্দ ও উত্তেজনা আমার চারদিকে ঘোরাফেরা করছিল। আমি এই দুই বিস্ময়কর বস্তুতে আন্দোলিত হচ্ছিলাম। 

কলেজে পৌঁছা: আমি আমার চাচাতো ভাইয়ের সাথে সকাল সাড়ে আটটায় কলেজে রওনা হলাম। আমরা আধ ঘন্টা পর সকাল ১টায় কলেজ  পৌছলাম। দিনটি ছিল রৌদ্রোজ্জ্বল এবং আমরা বাই-সাইকেলে চড়ে কলেজে পৌঁছলাম। সারা রাস্তা ব্যাপী আমার মন আবেগ, রোমাঞ্চ ও উত্তেজনায় কাঁপছিল। আমার চাচাতো ভাই কলেজ ও এর চতুর্দিকের সবকিছু সম্বন্ধে বলছিল।  

কলেজ প্রাঙ্গন: যখন আমরা কলেজের প্রধান ফটকে পৌঁছলাম, জমকালো ফটক দেখে আমি খুব রোমাঞ্চিত হলাম। আমার মনে হলো আমি জ্ঞানের বিশাল দিগন্তে প্রবেশ করছি। সমগ্র কলেজ আমাকে বিমোহিত করলো। বিশাল স্থাপনা, এর কক্ষ, প্রাঙ্গণ, ফলের বাগান, ফুলের বাগান এবং বিশাল খেলার মাঠ আমার দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করলো। প্রাঙ্গণের মধ্যে শহিদ মিনার  আমাকে রোমাঞ্চিত করলো। আমি সব কিছু পরিষ্কার পরিচ্ছন্ন দেখতে পেলাম। পূর্ণ প্রস্ফুটিত ফুলগুলোকে প্রতীয়মান হলো তারা আমাকে তাদের  হৃদয়ের কাছাকাছি নিতে প্রস্তুত। বস্তুত, জমকালো কলেজের অবকাঠামো সবচেয়ে বেশি আকষর্ণ করলো।  

প্রথম ক্লাসে উপস্থিতি: ঐ দিনের প্রথম ক্লাসটি সাড়ে নয়টায় শুরু হয়েছিল। ক্লাসে পৌঁছে আমি খুব বিচলিত অনুভব করলাম। অসংখ্য অপরিচিত মুখ আমাকে খুব আতঙ্কিত করলো। দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত মনে আমি পেছনের বেঞ্চে আসন গ্রহণ করলাম। কয়েক মিনিট পর, আমি সবসময় সজাগ ছিলাম, সেই সময় আমি উপলব্ধি করলাম সামনের বেঞ্চের ছাত্ররা উঠে দাঁড়িয়েছিল। তৎক্ষণাত আমি অজান্তে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়লাম এবং মধ্যবয়সী লোকের উপস্থিতি অনুভব করলাম। আমি আমার দ্বিধা ঝেড়ে ফেললাম এবং বুঝতে পারলাম এই আমাদের শিক্ষক। বিনীত ও শান্ত মেজাজে, আমাদের বসতে আহ্বান জানালেন। তিনি ছিলেন আমাদের ইংরেজি শিক্ষক। প্রথম দিনে, দুটি ক্লাস অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল এবং আমি এই ক্লাসগুলোতে উপস্থিত ছিলাম।  

অপরের সাথে বন্ধুত্ব: আমার কলেজে প্রথম দিনটি ছিল বন্ধুত্ব করার দিন। ঐদিন ক্লাসের শেষে, আমি অন্যান্য কয়েকজন ছাত্রের সাথে কথা বললাম। সময় অতিক্রমের সাথে সাথে আমার দ্বিধা কেটে গেল এবং আমি তাদের সাথে বন্ধুত্ব করা শুরু করলাম। অন্যরাও আমার সাথে কথা বলতে এগিয়ে এলো। অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে আমি উপলব্ধি করলাম আমার সাথে রফিক, সুমন, চুমকি ও রাজিবের বন্ধন হয়ে গেছে। আমি তাদেরকে অন্য জায়গায় ঘুরে সবকিছু জানার ব্যাপারে পরামর্শ নিলাম।  

অধ্যক্ষের সামনে দ্বিধাবোধ: আমরা বড় ভবনের চারদিকে ঘুরছিলাম। একসময় আমরা অধ্যক্ষের কক্ষের সামনে পৌঁছলাম। তখন আমার বুক কাঁপছিল। আমি নিজেকে তার সামনে আনতে পারছিলাম না। কিন্তু তাকে দেখার তাগিদ অনুভব করছিলাম। আমি কৌতূহলী হয়ে জানালা দিয়ে তাকালাম। আমি গোপনে অধ্যক্ষকে এক পলক দেখলাম। তিনি ছিলেন একজন দীর্ঘ ও সুদর্শন। তিনি চোখে চশমা পরিহিত ছিলেন। আমি তার সম্বন্ধে একটি অভাবনীয় বোধ অনুভব করলাম ।  

কলেজ পাঠাগার: আমার প্রথম দিনে, আমার কাছে কলেজ পাঠাগার ছিল বড় আকর্ষণ। আমি বইয়ের বিশাল স্তূপ দেখে বিস্মিত হয়েছিলাম। গ্রন্থাগারিক যখন বুঝতে পারলেন যে আমরা নতুন আগমনকারী, তখন তিনি আমাকে ও আমার বন্ধুদের স্বাগতম জানালেন। আমি দুই, তিনটি বই তুললাম ও কিছু সময় পড়লাম। সমগ্র পাঠাগার ও এর বিশাল সংগ্রহ আমাকে বিস্তৃত জ্ঞান আহরণের ইঙ্গিত দিল। 

কমন রুম: প্রথম দিনে আমি কমন রুম পরিদর্শন করলাম। এটি ছিল আমার কাছে  একটা নতুন অভিজ্ঞতা। আমি সেখানে অসংখ্য ছাত্র দেখতে পেলাম। এটি আমার কাছে একটা মিলনস্থল বলে মনে হলো। এটি ছিল সুসজ্জিত কক্ষ। কয়েকজন জ্যেষ্ঠ ছাত্র কক্ষের মধ্যে আমার সাথে কথা বললো। তাদের সময় কথাবার্তায়  আমি খুব সন্তুষ্ট হলাম। আমি ঐ অমায়িক স্মৃতিগুলো কখনো ভুলব না।

গৃহে প্রত্যাবর্তন: আমি অনুমান করতে পেরেছিলাম যে প্রথম দিনে আমি কলেজে কমপক্ষে পাঁচ ঘণ্টা কাটিয়ে ছিলাম। যতই সময় অতিবাহিত হচ্ছিল  সমগ্র কলেজ এলাকা আমার কাছে নতুন মনে হচ্ছিল। একটা শিশুর কাছে ছোট পাখির মতো। এটি আমাকে বিমোহিত করেছিল। অবশেষে, দুপুর ২টা ৩০ মি: প্রফুল্ল সংবেদনশীলতা নিয়ে আমি গৃহে পৌঁছলাম। 

উপসংহার: কলেজে আমার প্রথম দিনটি ছিল খুবই আনন্দদায়ক। এখনো এই দিনটি হৃদয়ে শোষণ করি। আমি আন্তরিকতার সাথে সচেতন ও অবচেতন উভয় ভাবে ওই দিনে ফিরে যাই, যখন আমার জীবনের ভিত্তি স্থাপন করা হয়েছিল।
