 Introduction: Satellite television is one of the wonders of modern science. It has added a new dimension to television. It is the most common and widespread source of entertainment. It is very useful for the present world. It has both educative and entertaining value. But it is a cultural assault on developing nations too.  

Uses: It has brought about a change in communication. We watch the latest news on television. It helps us to know what is happening in the farthest corner in the world. It meets up our recreational demand. We watch movies, dramas, music, dance, sports etc. on television. It has educative and moral value too. It is used for distance learning. For example, Bangladesh Open University runs educative programmes on B.TV. Informative programmes are shown on numeral channels. The Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel telecast informative programmes. Television widens our knowledge. It helps us to be acquainted with the culture of different countries. It helps us to telecast our own culture and natural scenery all over the world. Thus we can attract foreign tourists.  

Abuses: But it is a cause of anxiety for many. Some horror movies, obscene pictures, and cruel scenes are shown on television. These destroy the morality of the youngsters. These make them cruel and aggressive. These scenes greatly contribute to juvenile offences. Besides, our daily duties are neglected for it. The students are particularly harmed by it. Watching satellite television is addiction for many. It causes serious harm to our eyesight. For satellite television, our own culture, identity and tradition are getting effect. It is a bad sign for an independent country. 

Conclusion: In fine, we can say that satellite television has a great importance. It should be used properly. Harmful programmes are should be avoided. Only constructive programmes should be enjoyed.

ভূমিকা: স্যাটেলাইট টিভি বিস্ময়কর আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের মধ্যে একটি। এটি টেলিভশনের সাথে নতুন মাত্রা যোগ করেছে। এটা সবচেয়ে সাধারণ এবং বিস্তৃত বিনোদনের উৎস। এটা বর্তমান বিশ্বের জন্য খুব উপকারী। এর শিক্ষণীয় ও বিনোদনমূলক উভয় মূল্য আছে। কিন্তু উন্নয়নশীল জাতির উপর এটা একটি সাংস্কৃতিক আক্রমণও।  

ব্যবহার : এটা যোগাযোগের ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপক পরিবর্তন নিয়ে এসেছে। আমরা টেলিভিশনে সর্বশেষ খবর দেখি। এটা আমাদের পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে দূরবর্তী স্থানে কি ঘটছে তা জানতে সহায়তা করে। এটা আমাদের বিনোদনমূলক চাহিদা পূরণ করে। আমরা টেলিভিশনে চলচ্চিত্র, নাটক, সংগীত, নাচ প্রভৃতি দেখি। এটির শিক্ষামূলক এবং নৈতিক মূল্যও রয়েছে। এটা দূর শিক্ষণে ব্যবহৃত হয়। উদাহরণসরূপ, বাংলাদেশ উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়য় বিটিভিতে শিক্ষামূলক অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করে। বহু চ্যানেলে শিক্ষামূলক অনুষ্ঠান দেখানো হয়। ডিস্কোভারি এবং ন্যাশনাল জিওগ্রাফিক চ্যানেলে শিক্ষামূলক অনুষ্ঠান প্রচার করা হয়। টেলিভিশন আমাদের জ্ঞান প্রসারিত করে। এটা আমাদের বিভিন্ন দেশের সংস্কৃতির সাথে পরিচিত হতে সাহায্য করে। এটা আমাদের নিজেদের সংস্কৃতি এবং প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্য বিশ্বের সর্বত্র সম্প্রচার করতে সহায়তা করে। এভাবে আমরা বিদেশি পর্যটকদের দৃটি আকর্ষণ করতে পারি। 

অপব্যবহার: কিন্তু এটি অনেক উৎকণ্ঠার কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। টেলিভিশনে কিছু ভীতিকর চলচ্চিত্র, অশ্লীল ছবি এবং নিষ্ঠুর দৃশ্য দেখানো হয়। এগুলো যুবকদের নৈতিক মূল্যবোধের অবক্ষয় ঘটায়। এগুলো তাদের নিষ্ঠুর এবং আগ্রাসী করে তোলে। এ দৃশ্যগুলো ব্যাপকভাবে শিশু অপরাধ করতে অবদান রাখে। এছাড়া আমাদের প্রাত্যহিক দায়িত্ব কর্তব্যও এর জন্য অবহেলিত হয়। বিশেষকরে এর দ্বারা ছাত্ররা মারাত্মক ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। স্যাটেলাইট টেলিভিশন দেখা অনেকের জন্য আসক্তি হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। এটা আমাদের চোখের ব্যাপক ক্ষতি করে। স্যাটেলাইট টেলিভিশনের জন্য আমাদের নিজেদের সংস্কৃতি, পরিচয় এবং ঐতিহ্য প্রভাবিত হচ্ছে। এটা একটি স্বাধীন দেশের জন্য বিপদ সংকেত। 

উপসংহার: পরিশেষে আমরা বলতে পারি যে স্যাটেলাইট টেলিভিশনের অনেক গুরুত্ব রয়েছে। এটা যথাযথভাবে ব্যবহার করা উচিত। ক্ষতিকর অনুষ্ঠানগুলো এড়িয়ে যাওয়া উচিত। একমাত্র গঠনমূলক অনুষ্ঠানগুলো উপভোগ করা উচিত।
