Rules for Prepositions

Prepositions are words that make relationship between words. They provide clues to make a link with the remainder of the sentence together. Given the importantance of their role, they do a lot of functions for preposition in the sentence.

These rules tell us how the prepositions can be used, which prepositions are used when, and where the prepositions belong in the sentence.

1. Pair Them Properly

Determine the preposition that are needed for sentence we use a tricky preposition. We face a problem in it is idioms and phrases dealing with preposition because day expressions are not the same as they literally mean.

Idioms and phrases are special kind of expressions that we have to memorize otherwise it may be a mistake in using them. The errors will be called prepositional error.

2. Look at the word that follows them

As you know after the preposition there is a noun. This noun or pronoun must be careful about. This noun is called the object of the preposition that follows it. It is is noted here that cannot be an object of a preposition. A noun after the preposition would be the object of the preposition.

The example given below wheel clarify the matter.

The shoe was for the boy. This is a correct sentence because the preposition for here is followed by the noun boy. So boy here is the object of the preposition for. But if I say, the shoe was for walked. It would be wrong sentence because here the preposition for is used for the verb walked. A verb cannot be the object of a preposition so it is a wrong sentence.

3. Don't use them at the end of a Sentences

As you know ki position must be followed by a noun and it must have an object that's why they should not be placed at the end of a sentence. There are some exceptions where we place this preposition at the end of a sentence but this is in rare case.

4. If preposition is followed by a verb

If there is any verb after the preposition then the verb will take ING form. For example I am working for planning. As planning here is the object of preposition for that's why it takes ing form to make it a noun.

HSC English First Paper English For Today Unit 3 Lesson 4 Khona The mythical story of Khona is deeply rooted in Bangla folklore. Khona, originally named Lila, an incredible woman with a gift for predicting weather and understanding the ways of farming. Her wisdom was shared through memorable rhyming verses known as “Khona's Words" or "Khonar Bochon." These sayings, though simple and easy to remember, were filled with practical advice for farmers. Khona used her knowledge to help the peasants, but her actions often challenged the ruling class. The rulers, not pleased with her defiance, punished her cruelly by cutting out her tongue. Thus she became known as Khona, which means “someone who cannot speak." Despite this harsh punishment, her wisdom lived on through her sayings, which have been passed down for over 1500 years. The gate of the school she used to go to had fine concrete pillars with the name of the school in large characters. But the gate of this new school simply consisted of two rather short posts that still had twigs and leaves on them. "This gate's growing." said Totto-chan. "It'll probably go on growing till it's taller than the telephone poles! The two "gateposts" were clearly trees with roots. When she got closer, she had to put her head to one side to read the name of the school because the wind had blown the sign askew. "To-mo-e Ga-ku-en." Totto-chan was about to ask Mother what "Tomoe" meant, when she caught a glimpse of something that made her think she must be dreaming.
